Mortgage Brokers Reveal Technology Drivers
Recently we attended the inaugural Broker Innovation Summit (BIS2025).
With Mortgage Brokers now facilitating over 75% of all home loans, this article delves into the Summit and examines the rapidly evolving role of technology in the broker space, highlighting how digital innovation continues to reshape our engagement with Australia’s largest asset class: property.
As an innovator deeply embedded in the lender-broker property ecosystem, Lextech joined the event not just to observe but to listen. And what we heard was consistent, pervasive and clear… Brokers want less noise, more action and practical innovation that helps solve real problems and delivers real value for the end customer, the Aussie Borrower.
Explore the top 5 Insights on what stood out to us this #BIS2025!

1 – Data Quality Is Everything
Unsurprisingly AI stole the spotlight at BIS2025, but what became obvious is this: without clean, structured data, even the most advanced tech is little more than window dressing. Brokers are spending too much time navigating inconsistent policy formats, unstructured documents and disconnected systems.
Vendors such as NextGen and Sherlok demonstrated powerful ideas, but many brokers still struggle with fragmented data flows that introduce risk and drag.

2 – Brokers Want Security
One of the clearest signals from the Summit was a heightened concern around data privacy and security. As brokers become more connected and digitally reliant and begin experimenting with AI, the potential for risk increases, particularly in how and where client data is handled.
It is essential for businesses to actively identify and assess risks, whether they come from third-party applications or internal systems. Not all tools are built with broker compliance or data protection in mind. Using public AI platforms like ChatGPT or Gemini to process sensitive information can unintentionally expose client data, especially if those tools retain or train on that input.
This is not just a compliance issue. It is a legal risk and, more importantly, a matter of client trust. Establishing clear security protocols, vetting third-party tools, and educating teams on responsible technology use should now be a standard part of every broker’s operating model.

3 – Speed Still Reigns Supreme
Faster loan approvals. Instant document processing. Streamlined client onboarding. If there was one constant across BIS2025, it was Brokers’ appetite for speed… but with one big caveat: speed must not come at the expense of accuracy or compliance.
Vendors like Peach demonstrated real-time digital fact finds, while others focused on automating admin-heavy processes. But brokers are rightly cautious. They want fast… but they also want smart, secure, and auditable.

4 – AI That Helps, Not Just Impresses
A standout case at BIS2025 came from Cynario, which revealed how named, image-based AI personas increased engagement. It’s a reminder that humanising tech can make a difference… but only if it’s useful.
Brokers aren’t looking for gimmicks. They want AI that enhances decision-making, simplifies compliance, and makes their day more manageable, not just more digital.

5 – Practical Innovation Is Winning
While there was plenty of impressive technology on display and plenty of chat around “AI”, Brokers were vocal about what they really need: practical solutions that solve real-world problems.
Tools that offer:
- Live policy indexing to keep up with constantly shifting lender requirements
- Run-off tracking to help manage client retention (a metric many brokers still don’t monitor)
- Open Banking integrations that actually work reliably across lenders
- End-to-end workflows that reduce re-keying, double-handling, and human error
- Secure document delivery and management
- Streamlined communication and audit trials to connect all parties
